About the Design School
The Design School of Yunnan Arts University, known as the Department of Arts and Crafts in the past was founded in 1984 with a major of arts and crafts. Established in 1986, the Department of Arts and Crafts was later renamed the Department of Art Design, and officially became the Design School in 2002. It has a team of 76 school and staff members, of which 63 are full-time teachers, 8 professors, and 19 associate professors. 18 of the above-mentioned professors are academic tutors to students in the Master's degree programs. At the school, there are two experts who are entitled to special allowances of the government, three famous provincial teachers, one "Yunling Outstanding Teacher" and one distinguished teacher at the provincial level.
The Design School is centered on undergraduate education, and also offers the master's degree program and MFA program. There are 10 undergraduate majors: environmental design, visual communication design, product design, fashion and clothing design, animation, design, architecture, digital media arts, public art, as well as arts and crafts. The environmental design major features two programs of interior design and landscape design. And the product design major has a program of national art and design. With regard to the master's degree program, there are three majors that are design art study, art design and industrial design engineering. The school has enrolled 2,076 students of which 1,957 are undergraduates and 119 are graduates.
The school consists of nine departments: Environmental Design, Visual Communication Design, Product Design, Animation, Design, Architecture, Digital Media Arts, Practical Teaching (laboratory management) Center and Basic Education. There are three research institutions: the Creative Practice Promotion Department, the Higher Art (Art and Design) Education Institute, and the Digital Art Institute. It also has three famous teacher studios: Professor Chen Jinsong Studio, Professor He Yongkun Studio, and Professor Sen Wen Studio. The school has been recognized as the "Educational Base of Yunnan Province for Intangible Cultural Heritage", the "Design and Development Center of Unique Tourism Products of Yunnan", and a pilot university for the Training Program for Successors of Chinese Intangible Cultural Heritage". In 2016 the school was approved to build itself into a "Provincial United Training Base of Professional Degree".
In recent years, the Design School, in close partnership with the Foreign Affairs Office has held a series of creative art design events and international conferences themed "Beautiful Yunnan" and "Creative Kunming". These events and conferences have made highly recognized achievement in promoting Yunnan .
About the College of Music School
The College of Music, School established in 1959, consists of three majors: composition Composition and Ccomposition Ttechnique Ttheory, Mmusic Pperformance, and Mmusicology. The Music Performance Department has six programs of for singing, keyboard performance, orchestral percussion performance, performance of Chinese musical instruments, modern music, and chorusal. The Musicology Department has three programs of for standardnormalnormal musicology, professional musicology, and music therapy. The College collegeschool of Music is was eligible to grant mMaster's degree in musicology beginning in 2003, mMaster's degree for on-the-job university teachers in 2007 and MFA in 2009. The number of the faculty is 104, of which there are 89 full-time teachers, 21 professors, and 38 associate professors. The collegeschool now has now 1,873 students including 1,681 undergraduates and 192 graduates. Since its inception over 50 years ago, more than 7,000 musically talented individuals haves graduated from the collegeschool, and made a significant contribution in research and creation of minority music of Yunnan Province.
Relying on its excellent faculty and the unique, colorful minority music resources of Yunnan, the CollegeSchool of Music has obtained fruitful achievements in education, research, creation, and exhibition of performances. The major of composition and composition technique theory is accredited as a pilot feature feature major by the Ministry of Education and feature major of the province. The major of musicology is a provincial key discipline, under which Harmony, Concert, Music Aesthetics and mMusicology (teacher education) courses are among provincial excellent courses at the provincial level. The major of Mmusic Pperformance, a provincial feature major, has a music teaching experiment and exhibition center which is recognized as a provincial demonstration center of for teaching experimentation. An innovative experiment zone for training mode methods of complex musical talents is an area that collegeschools and universities of Yunnan Province are exploring innovations in talent development of talents. In addition, there is the Wang Hongxing Vocal Arts Research Center, the Yunnan Folk Music Research Base, the training base of the Yunnan team of for the CCTV Young Singer Competition, Graduate CollegeSchool, teaching aid studio, and other facilities. Over the years, the CollegeSchool of Music has won national and provincial awards in the national vocal music and instrumental music competitions. In 2014, the CollegeSchool of Music successfully held the fourth Peacock Award Vocal Competition for Art CollegeSchools of in China- the Second Vocal Symposium for CollegeSchools of in China.
About Arts and Culture School
The Department of Social Sciences of School of Arts and Culture and (Department of Art and Culture, Department of Basic Sciences), established in September 2002, was renamed to the School of Arts and Culture in October 2008. The teaching and research institutions include the Department of Arts Management, Culture Industry Management Department, Department of Arts, Department of Basic Cultural Knowledge Education, Department of Foreign Languages Education, and Department of Physical Education, Research Studios (performance art studios, art counseling rooms, art psychological study studios, cultural and creative industries research studios, film and television industry research studios). The school has a staff of 55 faculty, which includes 46 full-time teachers among which10 are professors and/or associate professors, 26 are lecturers, 5 are teaching assistants, 3 are teachers, and 2 are interns. Among those full-time teachers, 37haveMaster's degree or above, 2 on-job teachers working on their Master's degree, 3 on-the-job teachers studying for a PhD degree. The school now has 661 students (including 9 graduates).
The School of Arts and Culture has Public Administration (Culture and Arts Management), Performing for Undergraduates (etiquette and PR art), and cultural industry management programs.
In recent years, teachers of the school have started 4 projects that have been recognized by the Fund for Humanities and Social Sciences of the Yunnan Provincial Bureau of Education, participated in one collaborative innovation project, and finished 12 subjects assigned by the Yunnan Provincial Bureau of Education. There is also one published teaching textbook, one album of papers, and more than 100 papers, including one award-winning paper. The school also held over ten special lectures and attended7 academic conferences.
In 2014, the school successfully held the Third Annual Conference of the National Academy of Arts Management Committee-the Seminar of "Art Management under the Context of Globalization." The national academic conference is of the highest level and most influential academic conference that the school has ever hosted. More than 90 experts, scholars, and arts management professionals from over 30 art colleges and universities as well as students attended the conference.
Over the past five years the school has obtained a wide range of honors including a runner-up of the "Miss Chinese Cosmos Pageant2013".
About the Dancing School
The Dancing School consists of five departments: Danceology, Dance Performance, Choreography, Art Education, and the graduate division. The school now has 958 students. There are five undergraduate majors: Danceology (including dance education and national danceology programs), Dance Performance (including dance performance and social dance programs), Choreography, and Art Education. For postgraduates, there are two types of education models: academic and professional. The school has 34 faculty members, including one first-level actor, 16 associate professors, 11 postgraduate tutors, 10 lecturers, and 7 assistants.
With ??Music-Danceology?? being a first-level discipline, the school has established a complete system of postgraduate cultivation. Based on sufficient investigations, the school has been committed to the standardization of the cultivation program for MFA Dancology.
Through continuous innovation in education, research, creation, and performance exhibitions, the Dancing School has reaped fruitful achievements. The school has completed one national teaching-quality project for Dance Performance as a national pilot featuring 6 major provincial teaching quality projects and one educational reform project. On top of that, the school has fulfilled two national and nine provincial scientific research programs. Our teachers have won 5 national teaching awards and one provincial teaching award. 84 academic papers have been published in national and provincial core journals. The school has also won 4 national awards and 3 provincial awards for its research papers.
The works written and directed by our teachers and students has won many awards, including Performance Awards, the Gold Award for Works, Bronze Award for Directing, Top Ten Works Award, Outstanding Organization Award, and others. Our teachers and students have been invited to participate in programs on CCTV, HNTV, and Yunnan TV. Over the past five years, at the invitation of central televisions in Cambodia and Thailand, our school has taken part in the productions and performances of their Spring Festival galas. In June 2015, our school undertook a dance exchange between China and India in " the 2015 China - South Asia and Southeast Asia Art Week Performance and Exchange Activities??.
About the Drama School
The Drama School, established in 1960, now has 55 full-time employees (including 41 full-time teachers), among which there are 8 with senior professional title and 10 with deputy senior professional title. The school has enrolled 1,433 students in total, consisting of1365 undergraduates and 68 graduate students.
The school has five departments: Acting, Directing, Opera, Stage Arts, and Broadcasting. There are six undergraduate majors: Television Drama Performance (including the performance of drama and film and the models and costumes), drama and film direction, drama and film literature, broadcasting and hosting art, stage art design, and film(including stage design, costume, and make-up programs), drama (including the drama education and the drama history and criticism programs). In 2003, the school is allowed to grant a master's degree in "Drama & Opera" (now renamed "Drama and Film Studies"). Since 2004, the school has officially started a nation-wide master's degree program. In 2009 the "Drama & Opera" is recognized as a doctoral program in Yunnan, and all of its programs have been enrolling master's degree candidates in arts since 2012.
The school has implemented 29 Quality Projects at all levels including one state-level project and 16 provincial-level projects. In recent years, a wide range of academic activities at all levels have been organized or co-sponsored by the school. One of them is the "Drama Carnival-First Exhibition Season of Innovative Dramas Co-created by Small Theaters of Yunnan" in March-May2016, which is jointly sponsored by the School and the Yunnan Provincial Theater. Alongside teaching, research, and creation of drama, the school has enhanced its collaboration with local governments and enterprises in Yunnan to promote the development of the film and culture industries and inheritance and protection of minority dramas with its own expertise. In order to live up to its commitment to serving the community, the School has set up a teaching and practice base with culture departments, professional troupes, enterprises and institutions to promote the local culture development of the province and has seen remarkable achievements.
About the Fine Arts School
The Fine Arts School established in 1959, aims to educate individuals talented in the education, creation, and research of fine arts.
The school consists of 9 departments: Department of Traditional Chinese Painting, Department of Oil Painting, Printmaking Department, Sculpture Department, Department of Fine Arts Education, Department of Art History, New Media Arts Department, Calligraphy Department, and Mural Department. There are seven majors for undergraduates including Painting, Sculpture, Fine Arts, Photography, Digital Media Arts, Traditional Chinese Painting, and Calligraphy. Painting is subdivided into oil painting, printmaking, murals, and illustration. Traditional Chinese Painting is subdivided into painting and traditional Chinese painting. Fine Arts is subdivided into arts history and fine arts education. Digital Media Arts is subdivided into experimental images and art and media majors. The school is eligible to grant a degree for Master of Fine Arts (MFA) and academic Doctorate of Fine Arts (with a total number of 32 research specialties). There are 71 school members, which include 58 full-time teachers with 26 Masters and 8 PhDs, 16 professors, and 15 associate professors. There are 31 Master supervisors and 9 external Master supervisors. The college now has 1,931 students, including 1,734 undergraduates and 180 graduates.
The majors of Fine Arts and Painting are accredited as provincial key disciplines. The course of woodcutting is a top course at the provincial level. The majors of painting and fine arts education are accredited as featured majors of Yunnan province. The Fine Arts School also possesses a provincial teaching group for painting, a pilot teaching demonstration center for plastic arts and media, and teaching studios for Sun Jiandong and Zhang Ming at the provincial level.
In recent years, teachers in the Fine Arts School have undertaken 3 state-level projects and 12 provincial ones, with 18 monographs and 66 academic papers published. 39 pieces of works created by teachers have been selected or awarded, of which 2 have won state excellence awards, 6 provincial first prizes, 3 second place provincial prizes, 6 third place provincial prizes, and 5 provincial excellence prizes.
The Fine Arts School advocates scientific research, creation, education, and external exchanges through exhibition. By organizing biennial exhibitions of teachers?? works and intercollegiate exchange exhibitions with colleges both at home and abroad, the excellent teaching and research achievements of the college have been fully displayed.
About the Film and TV School
The Film and TV School, established in July 2001, now has 28 employees, of which 19 members are full-time teachers, including 2 professors, 4 associate professors, and 4 with a doctorate??s degree. As of August 31, 2016, the school has 1222 undergraduates and 28 graduates.
Film and TV School has two types of teaching programs: four-year undergraduate education and 3-year postgraduate education. There are three departments: Directing, Photography, and Recording; there are six laboratories, i.e. editing lab, photography lab, virtual lab, recording lab, integrated audio-visual lab, and television studio. In addition, there is a research center. i.e. the film and television production experimental center.
There are five undergraduate majors of Radio and Television Directing, Film and Television Photography and Production, Recording Arts, Filmology, Television Broadcasting Science (Television Broadcasting Science belongs to Journalism and Communication Studies in Literatures and the rest of the four majors are under the category of drama, film and television subjects in arts), and three postgraduate programs of documentary production, film and television sound creation, and film and television cultural studies. The school has created a unique strength in the fields of filmology theory, ethnic minority film studies, audio-visual language research, and research on contemporary national film and television in the areas of language and culture.
Since its inception in 2001, the school has educated a large number of graduates and has become the earliest and most important education institution of film and television culture industry with ethnic characteristics in Yunnan Province. Works by the students have been selected and received recognition and accolades in international film festivals in Japan, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Taiwan, Beijing, and Hong Kong. Many published treatises have won awards for social philosophy and social sciences of Yunnan Province, excellent films awards of the Publicity Department of Yunnan Province, and many other awards for scientific research and literary and artistic creation.
With audio-visual language study, minority film research and creation, research on the contemporary film and television with ethnic characteristics as its core, Film and TV School is committed to conducting thorough and detailed research into film and television of China and Southeast Asia (especially minorities) based on Yunnan??s rich ethnic cultural resources, valuable natural resources in border areas, and geographical and cultural advantages across Southeast Asia. The school strives to achieve influential results in theoretical research and creative practices and has become an authorized center for doctorate degree in drama, film, and television.
About the Higher Vocational Education College
The Higher Vocational Education College, established in 2008, now has 20 faculty members, of which 10 are full-time teachers (including 1 professor, 3 associate professor, and 6 lecturers), 4 are administrative staff, 4 are school counselors, and 2 are teaching assistants. There also are 44 external teachers, 12 of which are professors or associate professors. Based on the needs of teaching and major development, the employed external teachers are excellent teachers, actors, dressers, and designers from other colleges, performance organizations, design companies, and relevant enterprises and institutions. The number of students amounted to 1,073 on August 21, 2016.
The college sets three levels for education, including common college education; higher vocational education for students from technical schools, special secondary schools, and vocational high school; and education for upgrading from junior college to university. There are a range of disciplines from music, fine arts, to artistic design. Two undergraduate majors are Music Performance (technology and application) and Visual Communication (technology and application) Design. Two majors of the higher vocational college are Arts Education (vocational education) and Visual Communication (vocational education). Five majors for transferring from junior college to university include Fine Arts, Visual Communication Design, Musicology, Music Performance, and Arts Education.
The college greatly emphasizes the employment rate after graduation. To make sure graduates can find job, an employment guide group was established to help students with their job-hunting. With their efforts so far, the employment rate is rising year by year, reaching 97.63% at present.
The college has taken part in the first Beautiful Sound---New Year??s Choral Concert organized by the Musician??s Society in Yunnan Province, and won the ??Spring Bud Golden Prize??(February 2012), as well as the prize for excellent organization of the 9th Chinese Golden Bell Award for Music in the vocal auditions in Yunnan.
